The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders to win 55-23 and reach the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.

Washington made a surprise run on the brink of its first Super Bowl since 1992 but their dream died because they couldn't handle Philly's devastating running game.

The Eagles entered Sunday's NFC Championship game as slight favorites to win Super Bowl 59 and took over with this season's rushing leader Saquon Barkley scoring twice in the first quarter.

Philly led 27-15 at halftime, before Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts finished with three rushing touchdowns each.

Barkley had 118 rushing yards, with the Eagles gaining a total of 229 yards as they tied for the highest score ever in conference championships.

A touchdown from Jayden Daniels, aiming to become the first rookie quarterback to reach the Super Bowl, helped Washington cut the score to 34-23 in the third quarter.

But the leaders' hopes were stymied by four turnovers, each of which Philly punished with a touchdown.

The Eagles will make their fifth Super Bowl appearance in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, and it could be a rematch of what happened two years ago when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs aim to continue their quest for a third straight Super Bowl win when they host the Buffalo Bills later in the AFC Championship Game.
