“There is anxiety” on the future of the Commonwealth games, but she hopes that next year in Glasgow proves that he is still “applicable,” says Ms. Laura Kenny.
Glasgow intervened to host a recorded version of the 2026 games after the withdrawal of the Australian state of Victoria last year due to high costs.
“There is anxiety,” said Kenny, who was appointed this week, the head of the Commonwealth games in England. “You have to worry and be a little interested.
“I just hope all the research they drag how to improve it and what they can do to actually attract hosts.
“I hope everything they put in place is still a major event.”
The offers were withdrawn from Kuala Lumpur, Cardiff, Clearon, Edmonton and Adelid to host the 2026 games due to fears of costs, leaving them without a host until Victoria entered in 2023.
Kenny told the Olympic bike champion five times the Radio 4's program: “I am very grateful for Glasgow to put their hands and say they will get it.
“It is bothering some sports because it is a reduced version. Initially when there was no host, I was a little tense and I was somewhat worried that it might not be anything anymore.
“Commonwealth games are now studying their structure, how they can improve them, and how they can make them easier, make them larger and better so that you go forward.
“I really hope that things will go well as things went when Glasgow had been before (in 2014) and then they can see him still applied and a really good sporting event everyone loves.”
Commonwealth was organized for the first time in 1930, when it was known as the British Empire games.
The 2030 games will be held in Hamilton in Canada.
