Roku slammed over automatic ads playing at startup: ‘Considering jumping ship now’

This TV was not very smart.

Nowadays with many accessible broadcasting services, having to sit across a few ads while watching something is normal. However, many of the recently frustrated users were forced to watch ads before reaching their main Roku OS menu – and they were angry.

Roku's customers ran to Reddit to share their frustrations earlier this week when their patience was tested through a series of repeated ads that are operating automatically when opening the operating system.

In AR/Roku Subreddit, one of the users wrote, “Hi! I just played Roku and got a non -storage advertisement for a movie, before reaching the regular Roku home screen. Is anyone else's news?”

It is clear that this was not a defect – because many other people took the issue of the complaint.

One person wrote: “This also happened today. If you continue, my Roku devices will be in the trash.”

“It has suffered from the same thing. Looking at my options to jump now,” another person shared.

“Yes, this night has started last night for me. Disappointment and pampering. I can't imagine that it is enough to make me leave Rocco, as I already have three sticks and the Roku TV, but I will not buy any Roku devices in the future.”

It seems that Rocco was consistent with the advertisements that were feeding on power-this time was a declaration of “Moana 2” last year.

One of the angry users said: “It happened to me for Mwana. This is the absolute garbage.

“Yes. Moana 2 for me. I was a great defender of Rocco, but this will end.

“Moanna's advertisement for me now when I played TV!” Another commentator.

The post arrived in Rocco for comment.

In a statement, Roku's representative confirmed that annoying ads were something new that the brand was testing – based on the response of people, we hope they would think again.

The technology company said: “Our last test is just another example, as we explore new ways to display brands and programming while continuing to provide a delightful and simple user experience.”

This is not the first time that customers have angry with Rocco. In 2024, the brand witnessed two electronic attacks that affected more than 500,000 accounts. Fortunately, according to the company, the infiltrators were unable to access any sensitive information.
