The NHS nurse who “played God” was imprisoned by stabbing the owner of a recording store with fatal drugs from the hospital where he worked for life.
Darren Harris, 58, drowned a strong drug injection in the field of drugs in playing the back of the 65 -year -old Gary Louis. Anesthesia of the medical degree has left the reassuring store owner fighting for his life outside the Betterdaze records in Northallrton, North Yorks, on July 2 of last year. The distorted anesthesiologist, who worked at the theater of operations at the James Cook Hospital in Midsbra, traveled to the city of the market with a needle under the skin, before challenging the calm of Mr. Louis in the “random” and “motivation” attack.
Rocuronium is a strong muscle relaxation used in hospitals, usually during surgical operations or when the patient needs to put the artificial respiratory system.
The drug paralyzes the muscles of the body and after a short time, Mr. Louis collapsed outside his store, struggled to breathe, and he was unable to move or speak, and lost consciousness.
Mr. Louis only survived the delay in the appearance of the drug and rapid treatment by the paramedics who conducted CPR after any pulse was found.
Harris, a father married to two, was imprisoned for a period of at least 15 years before he was qualified to make a conditional release after being convicted of the attempt to kill.
No explanation for the attack was provided. Leeds Crown's court heard that the motivation remained a “complete mystery” and a “complete random attack” by Harris, who was “seeking to play God.”
Judge Simon Philips, Judge Simon Phillips, Judge Simon Phillips, told Harris:
“Mr. Louis stabbed his ass with a laptop, when his back turned to you, when he was sitting in his office to reach some change, he was completely completely and completely random.
“I knew exactly what you were doing. There is no clear motivation other than the unavoidable conclusion, which is that you chose to do this harsh behavior and comfortable cheese because it was within your power to do so.
“With this under the skin syringe in your hand, you have the ability to take life and this is the result you want to achieve.
“I got out of the store in an accidental way as if I were an ordinary customer after you just bought a record.
“I have no doubt that your expectations are that Mr. Lewis, within moments of injection by you with Rocuronium, has gone to respiratory arrest, which leads to a heart attack.
“He would have stopped breathing and would be found later in the store and was supposed to be expecting, that he had suffered from arresting my heart and died. I was intending to drive from the scene, leaving behind a man dies behind him.”
Harris tried to drive in his wife's car, but before he pushed the medicine, Mr. Louis ran after him, moved a mark to the road as a barrier and bore his car physically from leaving.
Although paralysis entered, the store owner was able to reveal that he was injected before the collapse.
Instead of trying to use his skills and experience to help Mr. Lewis after his collapse, Harris sat in a car “as if he was watching a TV program” and “he behaves as it happened.”
When the police faced him, he denied any violations, and the officers told: “I didn't get a needle. I got a 10ml syringe with water and I joined the water. It was water.”
Harris later claimed that he was planning to “intimidate” Mr. Lewis after a quarrel in his store a month ago, when he sold his group 300 records for 400 pounds. He claimed that he was pushed on the street, but the evidence of closed TV circles showed that there was no fall.
Mr. Louis, a 30 -year -old police officer, told how he died twice after the “cold and counted” attack before the paramedics was returned.
Mr. Louis told his attacker: “On that day, he spent several hours in my store, and during that time we talked the same way I talk to all my clients, in a friendly environment from my store.
“I know now that all the time he was planning and waiting for the right time to attack me with the district of his pocket, a syringe that included that deadly material he knew would kill me.

He added: “Nothing in life prepared me for terrorism and panic that I felt.
“When it collapsed on the street from the effects of this drug, she lost the ability to move, she lost the ability to speak.
“Although I was actually trying to shout in transparent terror without realizing, I realized that my breathing had failed, I felt panic and knew that I was dying, completely paralyzed within two minutes of the attack and I will never recover from the near death experience.
“To this day after the memories of the past every time I read or hear about the attack or death, I immediately go back to this sidewalk and realize that he was about to die.
Richard Hermann, the prosecution, said that Harris planned to create a “deadly injection” and was intending to kill.
He said: “The drug is used in anesthesia with the effect of paralysis of all the muscles of the body, including the diaphragm.
“The defendant was arrested at the scene of the accident, as he refused to admit that he did anything at all for Lewis, not to mention the help of those who are fighting to save the life of Mr. Louis by telling them what he injected with him.”
Harris worked as an older member of the Cardiothracic Operating theater team at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesebrough.
He was a “great experience” nurse and “with high experience” with no previous convictions, the court heard.
“Mr. Harris, from a good character so far, after he reached the age of 57, has contributed greatly to the hospital where he was working.”
“He has made valuable contributions to hospital care and patients for several years.
“This act mainly robbed him of that good and most important personality that stole his wife and family from his support in the future.”
Smith said that Harris, from Middlesbrough, was “likely” to suffer from a depressive disease “may have contributed” to his decision to attack Mr. Louis.
He has a life sentence, Judge Phillips told the nurse, “There was nothing but a heart about your intentions to end the life of this man.
At any stage of the stage, you did not reveal what you managed to this reassuring and innocent victim of your random attempt to kill.
“It is clear that you were subject to controlling your actions and seeking to control others.”
The South Tiz Foundation, NHS Foundation, said that Harris's employment had been terminated in August 2024.

After he issued the ruling on the Coronary Hall of Edmund to serve the prosecution, Harris said: “Harris tried to kill Gary Lewis in an unjustified and unjustified attack. We cannot imagine the terrifying influence of this attack; Gary left paralyzed at that time but with full knowledge of what was happening to him, including the danger of death.
“Fortunately, he did not die because of the intervention of medical experts and the support of the local population and the neighbors. Harris did not show any remorse and constantly denied that he had tried to kill the victim.
“We want to thank the North Yorkshire Police for their work, which has supported the CPS table for the defendant and we hope that the victim and his family will present a sense of justice for this vibrant attack.”
After the verdict, Mr. Lewis said: “My life and my life have changed in my family, friends and colleagues in an irreversible way through violent and unjustified procedures for Darin Harris on that day in July. I am grateful for the creditor and support that I had six months ago since this attack.”
