The President of the Concacaf Victor Monttegliani criticized a proposal to expand the Men's World Cup for 2030 to 64 teams.
These plans, which were developed by the South America Administration, have also drew opposition from the President of the European Football Association Alexander Severn and the Confederation of Asian Football (AFC).
The tournament will host Spain, Morocco and Portugal, after holding the opening matches in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be held throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada, has been expanded from 32 to 48 teams.
But Conmebol said it wanted to add more participants to celebrate the competition anniversary of the competition.
“I do not think that the expansion of the Men's World Cup to 64 teams is the right step for the same tournament and the wider ecosystems system, from national teams to club competitions, tournaments and players,” said Monttegliani.
“We haven't started even the 48 -team World Cup yet, so I do not personally think that expanding to 64 teams should be on the table.”
Concacaf is the governing body of North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
