Bill Berg, a librarian turned actor who was a regular at the movies Ernest Films, died January 9 in Nashville. He was 92 years old.
His cousin, Sharon Chapman, confirmed the news of his death on Facebook.
“My cousin Bill Berg has passed away,” she wrote. “He was a beautiful soul and made people laugh without even trying. He was the 'Bobby' character in many of Ernest's movies with Jim Varney. I always teased him about being a 'star' in our family. He deserved it because he grew up poor, but his mother taught him The love, respect and faith he showed to everyone.
The Tennessee-born actor worked at the Metro Nashville Public Library but left in the mid-1990s to focus full-time on acting.

His first role was opposite Varney in 1985 Dr. Otto and the Mystery of the Gloom Ray. He played a gas station attendant. He continued to recur as the character Bobby Ernest saves Christmas, Ernest goes to prison, Ernest is scared stupid and Ernest goes to school.
Berg also participated in Varney's Saturday morning show Hi Vern, I'm Ernest In the late eighties.
After Varney's death in 2000, Berg returned to work in a bookstore, his cousin Chapman told TMZ.
