The British are urged to verify whether they can be eligible to obtain a discount on their council tax. You may be able to get a discount on your payments if you fit one of five categories.

The council tax is determined by your local authority and helps to finance services such as collecting garbage and maintaining roads. The amount you pay through the evaluation squad in your home and the council area where you reside is determined.

However, not everyone is expected to pay the full amount. Citizen advice explains that some people are entitled to obtain what is known as the CTR tax.

This is available for people on a low income or the advantages of the claim. “If you suffer from low income, you may be able to reduce your council tax. If you get advantages or you have other people who live with you, this may affect the amount of council tax that is reduced,” says citizens' advice.

“The local council will ask you for the details of your income and circumstances, so that they can work if you are entitled to obtain the council tax reduction (CTR). They will then provide your new bill and tell you how much the council tax you need to pay.

“If you have other people who live with you between the ages of 18 years or more, you may all be responsible for paying the council tax. Only one of you needs to apply for a click ratio to appear.”

  • Student
  • Foreign language assistant registered with the British Council
  • Performing mental weakness
  • A direct care provider for a person who is not your partner, your husband, or a child under 18 years old
