Spanish club Real Betis are leading a chase to sign Manchester United winger Anthony on loan for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian has failed to come close to justifying his status as the second most expensive player in United's history.
Anthony cost £81.3m when United signed him in August 2022. Since then, he has scored 12 goals, three of which came in his first three Premier League appearances.
The 24-year-old has scored just once in the Premier League since April 2023 and his opportunities in the first team have dwindled – from 23 league appearances in his first year to 15 last season and none this season.
Anthony has featured in just 13 of United's 32 matches in all competitions this season.
Against Southampton on Thursday, he failed to convert a great chance when he slipped on Alejandro Garnacho's cross – and managed to put the ball back to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale even though he had an empty target to shoot at.
A number of clubs inquired about Anthony, and United realized they would have to subsidize his wages.
Talks with Betis, who are 11th in La Liga and face a Conference League play-off against Belgian club Gent next month, are at their most advanced stage, with the club hoping to conclude a deal, although nothing has been agreed.
