It was a chaotic start for the season in Albert Park for a race that began wet, dry and ended again, and included three safety cars, an outdated start and a series of accidents.
“I am grateful because I went through it, I got out of it with a little thing, at least one point,” said Hamilton, who qualified for the eighth.
“Obviously, I did not go or spin. I lack speed, certainly, but I think the car has more performance than we can extract this weekend.”
He said that the team left the matter very late to stop the late tires when the rain came with 13 rolls to go – three rolls stopped after Norris and one after VersabPen.
“The last sector (from the lap), everyone was going, but I was able to stick to it, so I was just passing by people, and as soon as we got to the starting line, it was dry,” Hamilton said.
So I was like: “That's good for me, I got this, I didn't get just a few rolls. “
“But after that, he set out at the last two or something like one or something like that, it was going down, and this is the moment that we might have been brought with.
“At that moment, I was like,” Oh my God, I am in third place.
