RORY MCILROY was supported to finish his long waiting for the Masters Green jacket after three main signs were monitored at Houston Open. After winning at the Fifth Golf University in the Players Championship, Mcilroy published in the final round 64 on Sunday to get fifth in Memorial Park, where Min Woo Li grabbed a late explosion from Scoti Chevler and Gary Woodland to land the title of his first PGA.

Although he finished five shots of the lead in 15 below, the Mcilroy game appears to be in the right direction. If we look at stability and outside the course, this may be the best chance for Northern Irishman to add Augusta Glory to its other four victories, with the last more than a decade.

Ricks Hoggard for a golf channel believes that Mcilroy will be in the frame after highlighting three encouraging aspects of his game in Houston. “If you are Ruri, the fourth place in strokes, you gained the starting point to green, top 10 at the distance of driving,” said Ryan Lavener on the Golf Podcast channel.

“It seems that the things that he did not get in TPC Sawgrass meet together. He had to work hard to miss the corridors at this golf course, but I think what he saw from his game may have been very encouraging.”

With the position of the masters in mind, Hoggard added: “Once you get records, we all know that this is the way things are accomplished in Augusta …

“You can go in the registration race and suddenly you have three times in a row on the card and you know that you are doing something special. We have seen it before.”

So Hoggard Mcilroy places above the defense of the Scheffler champion as a preferred master's degree. He added: “I am curious because Scoti Chefler is still the favorite, but in my opinion, I am still heading towards Rori. Not necessarily because of what he did this week but where is he in his game.

“I think for Scottie, it was one of those additional gains. I think the only thing I will say about Scottie, and I think this might have the same on Saturday, when he needed to do something special, and he did something special the day before with 62 …

“I think he shot 69 [on the Saturday]. The average registration on that day was 68 years. The average in this field has not been accompanied, which is surprising from Scoti.

Mcilroy was not 100 per cent in Houston, and after the post -championship revealed that he was concerned about an injury. He said: “It was like my right consciousness bothering me a little, so perhaps I will get some treatment on that and make sure that going to Ugusta.

“I got Michael Bannon coaches tomorrow (Monday), and we will do some work and make sure everything is in good condition for a week.

“It was a strong week. I still don't think my game is 100 percent under the control that I want, but it is good to have a week to work on some things.”
