Robin Amorim says he made more mistakes as Manchester United manager this season more than a goalkeeper under the shooting André Onana.
Onana was wrong with both Lyon's goals in his 2-2 draw in the European League on Thursday – a day after being called “one of the worst goalkeepers” in United's history by former Red Devils player Nemanja Matic.
Since the beginning of last season, Onana has made eight mistakes that lead to goals in all competitions, and more than any goalkeeper playing in the Premier League.
But Amurim, who was appointed as United manager in November, said: “If you look at the season, I made more mistakes than them during these last games and during these past months.
“Nothing I can say to Andrei at this moment would help him, so the most important thing is to be normal, then when time comes I will choose the best XI to play. But I am really confident in Andre.”
Host United Leon in the second stage of Old Trafford next Thursday (20:00 GMT).
With Red Devils 13th in the Premier League, their realistic realistic hope in European football next season is through the Champions League that provides the European League winner.
When asked if he is still trusting in his goalkeeper, Amom told TNT SPORTS: “We are still doing the same. Training, seeing games, and we are trying to choose the best eleven to win every match.”
