This deadline was provided to try to agree to the new PRA as quickly as possible, but the current deal may remain more than a year to run until the end of the 2025-26 season.
“WRU may end this agreement by granting the company at least two years a written notice until it ends at the end of the relevant agreement,” says a condition in this contract.
This can only happen if the “Professional Rakhbi Council (PRB) recommends itself as part of an objective review of the professional men.” It is understood that there has been no such review yet.
This policy will also not be in line with the desire to maintain four professional aspects in Wales, which was a decisive factor in the decision to save Cardiff.
WRU said that the Welsh Rakhbi game would have been financially displayed by the UNICBY (URC) and European authorities if it did not continue to provide four aspects of their competitions.
It is not the first deadline set by WRU this season. In August 2024, a more difficult deadline for three hours was issued for Wales for Women during the contract negotiations.
On that occasion, there was a “final offer” warning, saying that if they did not sign new contracts within three hours, they will be withdrawn, and planned matches against New Zealand, Scotland and Australia will not go ahead and can withdraw the Wales Ladies team from the 2025 World Cup.
The threat was not worked and the WRU executive leadership apologized later and accepted it was a mistake.
