The Vatican began the traditional funeral rituals and preparations for the group of the next Pope.
Pope Francis, the first Pope of Latin America and an important spiritual guide for more than 12 years, died in peace on Easter on Monday at 7:35 am local time, at his residence in Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican city.
His death was due to stroke, coma, and collapse of the irreversible cardiovascular and blood vessels, after a difficult health journey that included double pneumonia earlier this year, along with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
Even with his sensitive health, Pope Francis was present during the sacred week, where a final public appearance appeared on Easter, where he received thousands of worshipers in St. Peter's Square, and exchanged Easter Barakat. This last minute was deeply moving to the global Catholic community and showing its fixed dedication to the end.
Camerlengo announced the death of the Pope with deep sadness, expressing his heart affection for an example of Francis as a servant of the Lord. Farrell will manage the Vatican operations during Sidi's vacant period until the new Pope is chosen.
The Vatican has already started the initial steps of the papal funeral rituals, including confirmation of death and the body's burial. The remains of the Pope were wearing his white clothes, and later in the red liturgical clothes, before being transferred to the Paphagia Santa Marta.
Public viewing in the Church of St. Peter is scheduled to start, allowing believers to pay their respect. The funeral is expected between the fourth and sixth day after his death.
