Johnstown became internationally bad in November 1978 when Jones organized a suicide in mass killing of more than 900 members of the Sha’b Temple in Junstown, Guena. Most of the deaths were caused by the fruit punch that cyanide put, while some forced to absorb the poison, while others were injected. The poisoning followed the killing of US Congress member Liu Ryan by the temple members in Port Kaitoma, his command Jones. Four other members committed suicide in Georgetown, Guyana in the leadership of Jones. Jones led his followers to Guaana from the United States, and promised them a utopian society, but his leadership became madness and increasingly control.
