Field of Gold, by Kieran Shoemark, was sent from the favorite candidate 11-8 after he was the impressive winner of Craven Stakes during the path and distance last month.
The Gray was giving an offer to give John Gosden, who is now training alongside the second son, the first winner of 2000 in a university profession.
But he could not compensate for the ground after Poke sent the ruling court and reduced half a length at the beginning of the classic of the British racing season.
“William got the first running on us. It has ended strongly, but there is no pace and perhaps very far away in this field. It has been running out of the path,” said Josden Sinior.
“William was a length and a half of us, and this is what made it a difference in the end. This is a race. The pace was not what we thought would be required and it might be easier.”
