My mother, Sharon, was on her way to her cleaning job during what should have been an exciting time. After 30 years together, she and her partner, Martin, were preparing to tie the knot, and she was looking forward to the big day.
Unfortunately, her entire life turned upside down in a moment after hitting Calokan. BBC News reports how Sharon monitored the stolen truck while crossing Al -Souk Street, and the next thing she knew was “in the air” after “White's Vision”.
Sharon, 46, was transferred to the Queens Medical Center in Nottingham with a broken foot, five broken ribs and backward spleen. It also has a large hole in the back of its left leg, which has become “very infected”.
Nowadays, Sharon still suffers from a lot of pain and has to use a walking stick out. She was unable to return to work and moved from being assigned and issued to an isolated house.
Sharon admitted: “Martin and my family, and my grandchildren make me happy, but I do not like to go out. I was not like that before.”
His survivor colleague Wayne was strongly affected by the district. The 61 -year -old was on his way to his job as a forkline driver in the center of Nottingham when Calokan deviated and went directly to the back of him.
The effect was catastrophic. Wayne suffered from sophisticated brain injuries and physical injuries and spent more than six weeks healing in the hospital. He is now struggling to remember any aspect of his life before the attack, and he had to re -learn a number of life skills, including reading, cleaning his teeth, and using table tools.
The influence on his memory was so deep that Avid Leeds United Fan Wayne did not even recognize the honor of a tattoo for the club that had fallen on his arm, and he had to ask family members about what he meant.
Wayne, who is interested in partner Trisi, suffers from persistent pain in his legs, back and head, and also fights to deal with the problems of his memory.
BBC News told me: “Trissi tells me by saying this, but I was going to exchange my life for one of these poor students, undoubtedly,” BBC News told me. [in the court case]. What happened to me was nothing compared to that. “
“When I heard what happened to Barnaby or Grace, I thought,” I wish I had taken me instead, “said Sharon. They were very young and still live in their lives – you feel guilty.
“You should be able to go to work, and they should be able to wander; Ian should have been able to reach his truck and go to work. It's very wrong.”
In January 2024, Kalukan, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia before saying, was sentenced to hospital after he confessed three unintentional death charges on the basis of decreasing responsibility, in addition to three charges of attempted murder.
Last month, the Minister of Justice, Shabana Mahmoud, confirmed that the legal investigation into the attacks will happen and will be headed by the former district judge, Deborah Taylor. This means that the investigation was officially established, as the initial work “immediately” began.
In his speech, Mrs. Mahmoud confirmed that Mrs. Taylor will conduct a comprehensive and independent evaluation of the events that culminated in the attacks, and recommendations to prevent similar accidents. The broken families and survivors were present at the general exhibition at the announcement
In a joint statement he made at the time, Barnabi's relatives, Grace and Ian, said: “After our long and painful battle for justice, we can hope today to represent the beginning of revealing the truth and addressing everything that happened very wrong.
“The truth will come out. The mistakes will be corrected. We will be sure of it. Whatever it is, everything it takes, however, we have to do that, and as long as we should.
Each of Sharon Winwin will fully participate with the investigation, and was among those who were invited to Downing Street earlier this year to discuss the plans.
