More than 100 of Britain's most famous athletes wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Kiir Starmer urging the government to support London's attempt to host the 2029 World Athletics Championship.
Sidi Mo Farah, Kelly Hodgkinson, Mrs. Kelly Holmes, Mrs. Jessica Inis Hill, Katarina Johnson Thompson and Dali Thompson among the athletes, in the past and present, to sign the message.
The bid proposal, if succeeding, will witness the World Championship held at the London Stadium, and requires “one -time injection for public financing in 2028” with the promise of “400 million pounds in the national economic influence.”
“The hosting in 2029 would restore the best athletes in the world to British territory, but more importantly, it is important to inspire a new generation to participate in the most diverse and comprehensive sport there,” says the message.
“Some of us were lucky enough to try a crowd of homes in London 2012 and 2017. Some of us volunteered, and others were in the stands. We were all inspired.
“This spark put many of us on our trips, just as I did to thousands of other young people who went to join clubs, coach, official, or simply fall in love with athletics.”
The operation is scheduled to start 2029 this summer, as the organizers urge the ministers to commit to securing the UK World Championship in the coming weeks.
London also hosted the championship when it lasts in the UK in 2017.
