The Eva Longoria Foundation, with support from the Courage and Civility Award, on Monday pledged $1 million to support wildfire relief efforts in California.

Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro announced the pledge on social media today, saying the funds will support both the Castro Latino Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund and the California Community Foundation's Wildfire Recovery Fund.

Both groups collaborate with grassroots organizations on the front lines that dig deep into these communities and understand their needs.

Three wildfires are currently burning in rural Los Angeles — the Palisades, Eaton and Hearst fires — after starting about a week ago. The death toll has reached 24 so far, with more than 38,000 acres burned and more than 3,100 structures destroyed, most of them in Palisades and in Altadena where the Eaton Fire broke out.

In March 2024, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos presented $50 million each from the Bezos Courage and Civility Award to Longoria and retired Navy Admiral and former University of Texas System Chancellor Bill McRaven. The annual award recognizes people who make significant contributions to society.

Longoria will discuss the donation further on Tuesday when she co-hosts the NBC show Jenna and friendsbefore returning to Los Angeles to volunteer with the Global Empowerment Mission and visit World Central Kitchen's Eaton Fire operations.
