With the attack occurring on Bourbon Street in the same city where the Super Bowl is located, organizers are working to beef up security.

Thousands of fans will travel to the city for the big game and organizers don't want anyone to get hurt.

“We've dramatically increased our security posture so that people can come here and they can see a strong law enforcement presence,” Eric Dillon, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans, told ESPN.

“My goal was that you wouldn't be able to walk down an apartment block in downtown New Orleans without encountering at least one law enforcement officer.

“I'm not trying to make people afraid. I want people to see that we are prepared.”

There will reportedly be SWAT teams, armored vehicles and special agents on rooftops in New Orleans.

The NFL's chief security officer said the terrorist attack made them need to change their planning.

“I would say this doesn't change much in our security planning, but it does change things,” Cathy Lanier said.

“Are we doing anything differently? Of course.”

The terrorist attack occurred on New Year's Day and caused the Sugar Bowl to be postponed.

That game also saw tight security when played later.

To ensure another attack does not occur, organizers have launched a campaign for citizens to report any suspicious activity before the Super Bowl.

“A lot of times people are intimidated by the process of reporting things because they're worried they'll look foolish if it turns out to be nothing,” Dillon said.

“We're not worried about that. We want you to know if you see something that concerns you, if there's something weird or different, talk about it.”
