Issue: Governor Hoochul's State of the State address, including proposed measures to reduce subway crime.

In her State of the State address, Governor Hochul proposed providing a police officer to every train during nighttime hours for six months (“Cat Sees the Light!”, Jan. 15).

What about the other 16 hours in the day?

What happens at the end of the six-month period?

Hochul also wants to spend millions on LED lighting.

Lighting is not a problem.

It's a smokescreen for us New Yorkers to forget about its inefficiency and the $9 congestion tax.

In a classic case where politicians say almost anything to get re-elected, the governor promised changes to better prevent crime.

It has also seen a clear shift away from liberals since President-elect Donald Trump's stunning victory.

I don't trust her, and I hope enough New Yorkers agree with me.

It is time for us to see the light and vote her out of office.

The long and short of what Hochul said in her State of the State address is that the same thousands of criminals who have been terrorizing this city will continue to do so.

So now we will put a policeman on the train during the night to care for and protect the homeless and mentally ill and prevent crime?

But if the police moved officers to the subway, we would still have the mentally ill, the homeless, and criminals on the streets.

This step will not correct the crime problem, but will move it elsewhere.

Hochul is grasping at straws.

Major changes must occur in order to return the city to what it was in previous years.

If the election were held now, it wouldn't even be possible to elect Hochul as a dog catcher (“No Affordable Help for New York City Homeowners,” Post Opinion, Joe Borelli and Justin Brannan, January 16).

Instead of making the city more and more unaffordable by appeasing campaign contributors, Hochul should look to other, more efficient means of raising revenue.

Money can be raised by making speculators pay, and making the RTA work more efficiently by eliminating all waste, which costs us untold amounts.

Of course, all of this will never happen because Hochul fears her progressive allies and donors.

Issue: President Biden orders the release of 11 prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay.

President Biden's latest insult to the American people is the release of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay (“Joe Unleashes Terror,” Paul Sperry, January 13).

Is there anyone in this country or the government who can stop this man from his destructive tendencies?

What a slap in the face to the families of the thousands killed on September 11, a tragedy in which the men being released are implicated.

The death toll continues to rise, and illnesses continue to plague first responders and those who work and live in that area.

January 20, when this man and his policies come to an end, will be a day to celebrate America.

Maureen Sharkey

Brooklyn

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, President Biden rears his head and releases the detained terrorists.

How meaningless and destructive can this person become?

I hope President-elect Donald Trump will undo all of Biden's disastrous policies.
