Leinster 47-21 Bath: Hosts knock Premiership leaders out of Investec Champions Cup

The premiership team taking on Championship leaders United Rugby promises an exciting encounter in Dublin.

Bath knew that defeat would leave their qualification hopes out of their hands, and it was clear that they were not willing to rely on results elsewhere to determine their fate.

Ted Hill's rampaging rally helped gain ground for Barbieri to control, before De Glanville attempted to calm the Dublin fans after a Finn Russell kick wreaked havoc on the Leinster defence.

Leinster have won every game this season and went into the game fresh from an away win over La Rochelle.

The Irish county began to come into its own as Henshaw finished off two tries sharply – the second aided by the sharp hands of New Zealand midfielder Jordie Barrett.

The four-time winners were known to outscore the teams in Dublin, but were frustrated by Bath until Captain Conan forced his way to take the lead, with Obano in the bin.

Despite being a down player, Ollie Lawrence produced a moment of magic to break down the Leinster defense and set up De Glanville for his second and unexpected lead at the break.

Leo Cullen's side removed international duo Kaylan Doris and Snyman from the bench at the start of the second half, an indication of how well the visitors were stifling their attack.

Snyman's brilliant offload helped create space for the South African lock to then stretch out and finish off the score he started.

Substitutions improved Leinster's scrum, and two penalties and another yellow card for Obano followed.

The Premier League side would have had a difficult task dealing with the Leinster bench, which contains eight internationals, with a full complement of players, and they had a lot to do after Obano's sacking.

After losing in their last three Champions Cup finals, Leinster will be hoping their new added depth will be the difference this year.
