The Kansas City Chiefs are one step closer to achieving an unprecedented 'three-peat' after defeating the Houston Texans in the NFL playoffs.
After earning a bye to the first round, the Chiefs begin the divisional round at home against the Houston Texans on Saturday.
The two-time defending NFL champions cruised to a 23-14 win to keep alive their hopes of becoming the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City has reached the NFL Championship Game four times in the past five years, winning it three times.
Last season, they became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since Tom Brady's New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005, and they came back just one win in the big game.
Travis Kelce was also pivotal to Kansas City's dynasty, and a tight touchdown early in the fourth quarter sealed the victory. Kareem Hunt scored their other goal, helping them take a 13-6 lead into the first half.
Houston's Kaimi Fairbairn missed two chances to tie the game, sending a field goal and an extra point attempt wide, before a late field goal attempt was blocked.
But the Chiefs were ultimately comfortable winners, meaning they will play in their seventh straight AFC Championship game next week against the Baltimore Ravens or Buffalo Bills, who meet on Sunday.
