The mother and grandfather of British teenager Alex Batty, who was kidnapped in 2017, will not face criminal proceedings over his disappearance.

Alex fled a town in France in December 2023, leaving his mother and their “off the grid life” to return to the UK six years later.

British investigators said they “examined all possible lines of investigation” before deciding that there were “insufficient grounds” to prosecute the accused.

The decision applies to Alex's mother and grandfather, who kidnapped him during a holiday in Spain when he was 11 years old.

Cops added that this was “the outcome Alex and his family had hoped for” but they felt the case should be “properly and thoroughly investigated”.
