BBC gives first peak at 'Walking with Dinosaurs' revival.
Here's a first look at walking with dinosaurs, As the BBC brings back the popular natural history show after a 25-year hiatus. The new series will be broadcast later this year on BBC, PBS and France Télévisions. The 1999 original was hailed as groundbreaking, and is still considered one of the biggest production triumphs in the history of natural history programming. This news comes on the same day we revealed that Surya Biswas, head of BBC Natural History, is moving into production in a newly created role in the Natural History Unit at BBC Studios.
Chris Oliver Taylor is leaving ABC
ABC chief content officer Chris Oliver Taylor will leave the Australian broadcaster after less than two years in the role, with his role axed. The former Netflix, Fremantle and Matchbox Pictures boss joined in March 2023 in a newly created role under ABC managing director David Anderson. Guardian Australia reports his role has been significantly reduced in scope following the appointment of new ABC boss Kim Williams, who has removed his broadcast and digital responsibilities and is said to have different ideas about documentary production. Anderson, a key ally of Oliver Taylor, will also exit after resigning two years into his second five-year term. He is replaced by former Nine Network boss Hugh Marks. Oliver Taylor's tenure at the ABC is best remembered for combining the screen, sound and digital units – before Williams reversed that decision – and for merging the entertainment and specialist division and the regional and local division. He commissioned shows such as Assembly, Family next door, back to heaven and Bluey's big playHe helped develop the ABC iView live streaming service. “Chris has been exceptional in his creative approach to supporting our content teams and delivering valuable programming to our audiences,” Anderson said. “He took on an extremely challenging role, one that required someone of his experience and ability, and led our content teams through this period of change and growth.” Oliver Taylor added: “Following recent discussions with the Managing Director and reflecting on my ongoing conversations with the ABC Board and President over several months, I have decided to make a difficult decision and move to new opportunities outside of the ABC.” He will depart on February 28 and will be temporarily replaced by ABC's head of screen content Jennifer Collins as director of content from today “until further notice”.
Mediapro studio hits Kate del Castillo with first-look deal
The US and Canadian arm of Mediapro Studio (TMS) has closed a first-look deal with actress and producer Kate del Castillo's Cholawood Productions. This comes the same week that TMS US & Canada hired Francesca Riccani as head of U.S. Hispanic Content and shortly after Catalina Porto was named TMS's head of content for Mexico & Colombia. The agreement will see TMS get an exclusive first look and option to develop and produce all scripted and unscripted Cholawood projects. Del Castillo, known for his acting on shows like the Fox drama Cleaning ladylaunched Los Angeles-based Cholawood with Carmen Cervantes and Jessica Maldonado in 2019. “Kate, Carmen and Jessica are true pioneers in amplifying the voice of Latinos around the world,” said JC Acosta, president of TMS in the US and Canada. “As our studio expands into the US, we are excited to collaborate together to create stories that entertain audiences with Latina and female voices.” “Only together can we continue to make our voices heard,” De Castillo added.
