The fourth edition of the awards, held at Curzon Bloomsbury in London on Sunday, celebrated exceptional achievements by women and people of marginalized genders in the film space. Hosted by Girls on Film, Anna Smith and Hedda Lorne Arness, the awards put a spotlight on female-led filmmaking with a particular focus on diversity, inclusion and representation.
Verget, who was nominated for Best Director at this year's Academy Awards, was on hand to collect her awards and told the audience that Article “It was meant for me to reflect what women have to face in their daily lives from society which is not nice, it's not subtle and it's not sensitive.”
Shiori Ito Black Box Diaries It won Best Documentary Feature and the Extarist Impact Award, while Mike Leigh received the Ally Award, an award given to a male ally in the film industry who has demonstrated a commitment to the representation of women.
“In today's difficult world, it is more important than ever for diverse women to support each other,” Smith and Lenny Archibold said. “This year’s nominations reflect the spirit of brotherhood and the power of film to inspire, inform and create community. These awards honor the power of storytelling to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.”
