Mcilroy will run the first PGA tour in 2025 at Pebble Beach Pro-Aam this week and warned against making many changes to simulate what is offered elsewhere.
“I don't think we should try to whisk the golf to attract more people,” he said.
“Golf is a golf game at the end of the day. It was this way for hundreds of years. As you know, I really like the way the golf is and I think many others do it too, but I still understand criticism of how the entertainment product can improve.
“I hope people will find that entertainment, and if not, I do not know what to tell them.”
One of the continuous criticisms of the PGA tour in recent weeks was the pace of play, but the main winner has four times admitted that there are no easy solutions.
As a signature event, the field will be limited to 80 in Peble Beach this week, but these numbers during the season will deprive others of playing opportunities.
“There are a lot of different answers, but not every answer makes everyone happy,” he said.
“I can say smaller fields. Smaller fields, smaller fields will help in playing speed, but this removes opportunities from people. I also think, and the other thing is when we play at this time of year, TEE Times Have is more tightly together so that they can Reaching everyone with daylight and everything.
“If you can be able to space, TEE TEE is a little more, we hope it will make things flow a little better.”
