Best Same-Day Flower Delivery: 1-800-Flowers

A bouquet of flowers in a vase from 1-800 Flowers. 1-800 Flowers

Pros:

  • A huge selection of flowers, plants, gifts, and food
  • Same-day delivery, as well as scheduled
  • One-of-a-kind bouquet options, curated by local florists based on your zip code, with the freshest blooms
  • Very impressive size of these arrangements (can be split into multiple vases)

Cons:

  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

For the best selection of blooms, we’ve got the number for you. 1-800-Flowers really does it all, with options for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, sympathy, and more. Plus, they also offer plants of every kind, gift baskets, food and wine bundles, and other trinkets to send to loved ones.

Back to the blooms at hand! We’ve been testing these flowers over the last couple years. But with February coming up, we opted to try a few of the Valentine’s Day best-sellers, which come in every, shape, size, and color you can imagine — our personal favorites being the DayDream Bouquet ($60) and True Love Bouquet ($60). The delivery was set up through local florists in the area to curate a unique bouquet with the freshest, in-season flowers.

New York Post Review: “When I came to my desk to find these bouquets from 1-800 Flowers, my jaw dropped to the floor,” said Commerce Reporter, Miska Salemann. “If you’re looking for flowers with a major wow factor, 1-800 Flowers is your place. These bouquets arrived so well curated with a lovely combination of sizes and colors — even my own picky, flower-obsessed mother would give them her seal of approval. Not to mention, they arrived in high-quality vases that our entire team plans to reuse for years. The floral arrangement was packed in a cardboard base and wrapped in plastic and tissue paper — nothing was bent or bruised. Over a week later, they still look lovely.”

Best for Orchids: The Sill

A purple orchid flower in a white pot
New York Post Composite

Pros:

  • Orchids are offered in various colors and even in a life-life faux option
  • The packaging was second to none, ensuring the delicate stems and blooms were completely intact, less one pedal
  • There was a decent planter variety
  • Orchids are pet-friendly (very clearly noted in the photo)

Cons:

  • “Flowers” is not an option on the home page, so finding the limited options is a little tricky.

The Sill offers a selection of cut, dried, and faux bouquets perfect for Valentine’s Day. But, the orchid has long been the flower that sets itself apart from the rest. You don’t send a bouquet of orchids — you send the whole plant, roots, and all. Because of this, you can’t skimp on an orchid. If the plant isn’t quality, it won’t be en route to anyone.

To add eco-elegance to such a pretty gift, shoppers can choose an upcycled planter. According to the website, upcycled planters are made from agricultural by-products and natural fibers and finished with a non-toxic, formaldehyde-free resin. Our team previously reviewed The Sill, and left some glowing remarks. Read below for the down-low on the best-selling White Orchid ($69).

New York Post Review: “The Phalaenopsis orchid was packed perfectly. Upon opening, dense yet lightweight matting surrounded the bubble-wrapped beauty. If I were a less patient man, I could see myself damaging the orchid due to how secure the packaging was,” said Commerce Editorial Director, Barret Wertz. “Between the bubble wrap fitting to the plant’s exact dimensions, the rubber bands securing each layer of bubble and cellophane wrapping, plus the separately wrapped base of the planter — this was a very well-safeguarded plant. The reveal of the beautiful, delicate blooms was well worth the effort. Although not in a full flourish as the image on the website suggests, the buds look primed to prosper with the right patience and persistence.”

Best Next-Day Flower Delivery: UrbanStems

A bouquet of flowers in a glass vase from UrbanStems.
UrbanStems

Pros:

  • The box was great for gifting, as well as protecting the flowers
  • Flowers look exactly as they are on the site
  • The site is user-friendly and it is easy to find the right size for each bouquet

Cons:

  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets
  • Stems may need to be trimmed

UrbanStems prides itself on having fresh, seasonal flowers sent straight from the farm to your doorstep in a matter of hours or days — not weeks like some companies. Since bouquets change with the seasons and what is currently growing on partner farms, the seasonal arrangements are always perfectly bright and fresh when they arrive at your home.

There is a wide variety of charming options hand-selected for Valentine’s Day — from the bold and bright Firecracker ($74) to the marvelous Unicorn ($60), and many more luscious blooms that might speak to your sweetheart. Opt for the standard single size, or easily double, or triple your order for a fuller display.

New York Post Review: “I ordered two of the bestselling arrangements, pictured above in their full glory. I requested next-day delivery and they arrived promptly the day after my order was placed. One of my favorite aspects of this delivery service is the packaging,” noted Salemann. “As you can see, the entire bouquet was placed carefully in a well-sized box and arrived with care instructions and nutrients for the flowers. I had to trim the stems and spread the bouquet a bit after putting it in the vase, but once it was all ‘floofed’ up — it looked just like the photos. It’s worth mentioning that the colors were exceptionally bright on these blooms — maybe more so, than a few of the other bouquets we reviewed. The freshness rating is a 10/10, from me.”

Best Long-lasting Flower Delivery: The Million Roses

Black box filled with white roses from The Million Roses.
The Million Roses

Pros:

  • Easy to order with fast delivery
  • Scheduled delivery available
  • Highest quality of flowers
  • No wilting before 3+ years
  • No watering or water changing needed

Cons:

  • Only roses available
  • Mixed reviews on the scent of the preserved roses
  • More expensive than some other flower services we tested

Every bouquet from The Million Roses is designed to last over three years without watering. That’s right: three years — and no watering or care is necessary. The brand also offers scheduled delivery and over 10,000 rave reviews to bank on.

Each one of their roses is selected from the top 1% in the world, so we had to put them to the test. They arrived promptly and in pristine condition — exactly as we custom-made them to be — white roses in a black box ($120) and red roses in a white box ($293). You can even choose a gift message, with two different card types to select from.

New York Post Review: “To be completely honest, I had no clue what to expect when I read preserved roses,” admitted Salemann. “Would they be dry and flakey? Look fake or painted? Fortunately, with The Million Roses, neither is true. These impeccable roses arrived looking as fresh as ever, and while the other bouquets are showing some signs of aging, these still look as good as new (ideal for those of us who forget to water). The bouquets are filled to the brim, leaving hardly any space between roses, and each rose seemed to have been selected at optimal budding time. The only frustration I have with these roses is that they no longer have that rich rose scent. Also, I wouldn’t recommend attempting to move them into another vase or pot. They are meant to stay in the container.”

Best Valentine’s Day Flower Delivery: FTD

A bouquet of red roses in a glass vase next to chocolates
FTD

Pros:

  • The flowers can be hand-delivered to ensure a safe delivery
  • Flowers come with the nutrient packet, wrapped in cellophane, and with a vase
  • Options to shop for plants (pet-safe), gifts, food and wine, too

Cons:

  • You do need to trim the stems quite a bit
  • The candle was not the one described on the website
  • No option to filter by pet-safe bouquets

For those that don’t know, FTD stands for Florist Transworld Delivery which is exactly what we got with a delivery of fresh red roses, sent right to the front door.

We previously ordered the stunning Scarlet Rendezvous Bouquet and Candle Set (now out of stock) in part because they are perfect for Valentine’s Day, and also in part because roses are a great pet-safe option. Note — they do not have a pet-safe filter on their flowers, but do have one for their plant delivery options and a handy guide for what blooms you can buy.

New York Post Review: “My roses were hand-delivered to my door, alongside a little black bag,” said Cannon. “The roses themselves were pretty long, and so I did have to get out my sheers and give them a trim, but the actual blooms were vibrant and fresh, just like the photo. The candle in the bag was not like the two pictured, but was honestly a fun surprise, as I received a larger, ceramic candle with a lid that smelled of sage and eucalyptus.”

Best Subscription Service: BloomsyBox

A vase of flowers with stems
The bright orange hues were almost as vivid as on the site, with pops of yellow and green in the mix, too. Bloomsybox

Pros:

  • Shipped with precise care and protective packaging
  • Can be ordered on a subscription basis, with the most in-season blooms sent out on a cadence of your choosing — also makes for a great gift
  • Has an on-site section for pet-safe flowers

Cons:

  • The thick stems made it difficult to trim (to fit in a certain vase), though not a deal-breaker (this could have simply been the bouquet chosen and/or the vase)

Who needs an occasion to send flowers? Give the gift that keeps on giving, by sending a subscription for fresh flowers to a loved one. BloomsyBox makes it incredibly easy to do just that, with prepaid plans perfect for every budget and timeline. There is also a section for pet-safe flowers, so don’t worry about sending these as a gift to those who have cats and dogs at home!

Choose between a month-to-month, three-month, six-month, or full-year pre-paid plan, and then pick which bunch you like the best. Each bouquet ranges from 18-20 stems all the way up to a 27-32 stem premium bundle, arriving at their door hassle-free. To put the stems to the test, we ordered the Candy Crush ($99) and Sage Serenity ($80).

New York Post Review: “BloomsyBox had such a wide selection of bouquets and plants, that it was difficult to choose just one,” admitted Salemann. “I ended up opting for a colorful Valentine’s Day bouquet as well as a little house plant. My blooms were shipped with meticulous care, a standout component that set the brand apart from others. The text on the box indicated which side to open first, which helped keep everything upright. Of all the flowers I’ve examined, these arrangments felt the most natural and less curated (I personally appreciate an au-natural look). I will say — the stems on the roses were a bit long and somewhat uneven — a touch of trimming may be needed. However, the strong, sweet fragrance of my roses more than makes up for it.”

A box of roses named Venus
Neiman Marcus

Pros:

  • The roses really do last, without wilting or browning for a year (sometimes longer)
  • They still smell great, despite being preserved and not fresh from the store
  • Wide assortment of colors, as well as fun patterns and decorative vessels and vases to choose from
  • Pet safe

Cons:

  • On the pricy side
  • A limited selection of flowers; roses are the most popular

Why give a gift that only lasts a few weeks, when your bouquet can last up to a year? Still need a hint? Just look at the Classic Small Round Rose Box ($299) from Venus Et Fluer.

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like red roses, and the preserved rose arrangements from Venus ET Fleur are not only stunning but are also made to last for months — or even years — at a time. Made from real roses, they are preserved and arranged in a ceramic vase, serving as the perfect centerpiece and conversation starter in any room.

New York Post Review: “I am a sucker for white roses, but one thing that I dislike is a few days after I buy them, the crisp white color turns yellow and then brown, forcing me to throw them out earlier than I want,” said Sophie Cannon, manager of commerce strategy and development. “This is no longer an issue, as I have now owned my Venus ET Fleur roses for over six months, and they are as clean and white as they were when I first got them, and even still smell good, too!”

Best Cheap Flower Delivery: Teleflora

A bouquet of flowers in a vase from Teleflora
Teleflora

Pros:

  • Flowers were packaged well, in cardboard to protect the vase and with tissue and cellophane
  • Lots of great options for occasion flowers, as well as flower type, and vase selections
  • There is a button on-site to help track your order
  • Budget-friendly options for flowers are on sale, with Deal of the Day

Cons:

  • No option to sort by pet-safe blooms
  • Colors may vary (up to your local florist)

Add a personal touch to your bouquets with the florists at Teleflora. Each bundle is arranged by hand and designed by local florists (depending on your location) so every bunch feels unique. Because they can be local, also keep an eye out for same-day delivery options and other perks you don’t get elsewhere.

Our reviewer, Sophie Cannon, was very excited about this aspect of the delivery since she has always wanted to discover new florists in Brooklyn but didn’t know where to start. She previously tested the Marvelous Mosaic Bouquet ($51) and loved the vase, foam foundation, among a few other unique features.

New York Post Review: “The arrangement, sure enough, was beautiful, complete and full of fresh and vibrant blooms, plus a succulent for good measure. The bouquet was also pet-safe by request, which I appreciated, although there isn’t an option on-site to sort by these. The delivery itself was seamless, and upon my return home from work, I found the stunning mosaic vase carefully wrapped in cardboard and the flowers in cellophane for safe transit. The flowers were also stuck in foam, as opposed to free-floating in water, so the bouquet stayed absolutely perfect and still is while sitting in my bedroom.”

Best Celebrity-Loved Flower Delivery: JJ’s Flower Shop

A vase with flowers in it
JJ’s Flower Shop

Pros:

  • Packaged beautifully and arrived lightning-fast
  • Flowers arrived perfectly fresh and the water-retaining foam was still damp when I received the package
  • Nationwide shipping
  • Came with a hand-tied bow

Cons:

  • Very limited options for bouquets and sizes
  • Could be considered small for the price

Want to decorate your home like the celebs? Turn to JJ’s Flower Shop — the ultimate destination for celeb-approved blooms. These curated bundles have been loved by many of the stars, including Kate Hudson, Usher, Steven Spielberg, Gabrielle Union, Janelle Monae, and Chip and Joanna Gaines.

Not to mention, the JJ’s flowers we tested were almost identical to what we actually received — which was the FLWR FWD: Standard Bouquet ($75), to be exact. What you see is what you get, which is rare in ordering flowers online! Plus, the packaging is pretty cute. We only wished the bouquet was a bit larger.

New York Post Review: “I received the FLWR FWD: Standard Bouquet, which came wrapped in a bow and packaged for perfect gifting,” shared Cannon. “I would certainly send these to a friend or loved one, and not worry about the presentation. I do wish there was a better variety and size choices. The bouquet was a tad on the small side.”

A person holding a bouquet of flowers
Bouqs

Pros:

  • Came with an abundance of flowers — able to split into multiple vases
  • Flowers came not yet fully bloomed, to prolong the shelf-life at home
  • Flowers came packaged tightly in the box, with rubber bands and cellophane to keep everything neat

Cons:

  • You may get more flowers than what fits in the vase (not really a con!)
  • No option to sort by pet-safe arrangements

A short name with a large variety of flowers to choose from, The Bouqs is perfect for those who always have a bunch in their home and love to send to others as well. Notably, it’s great for same-day delivery, depending on your area.

The flower service not only has a la carte options for bouquets but also a subscription service that trims the price and maximizes the blooming benefits. Starting at just $36 per month, a Bouqs subscription will get you 30% off and free shipping on every order, plus a $10 credit on your account every month. With access to exclusive curated collections, never again will you send a boring bouquet.

New York Post Review: “I ordered the Heartfelt (now sold out), which was appropriate for Valentine’s Day but also any occasion to spread some love,” said Cannon. “Upon arrival, I was shocked by how many stems came in my box, so many that I needed to grab another vase from my cabinet! They also arrived not-yet-bloomed, which I honestly prefer so that they last longer in my home, as opposed to wilting after a day or so. The gold vase was the cherry on top — a perfect centerpiece for my living room.”

How We Tested

The Post Wanted team has spent over two years testing the best flower delivery services to thoroughly evaluate bouquets on several factors — including packaging, freshness, delivery options, and the overall quality of the selection.

Miska Salemann and Emma Sutton Williams testing flowers.
Miska Salemann and Emma Sutton Williams testing flowers. Miska Salemann
  • Packaging: We reviewed the size and type of packaging the bouquets were delivered in, whether they were accompanied by any instructions for care, and made notes if the flowers arrived in good condition without any damage.
  • Freshness: Freshness is pivotal for pristine flower delivery. After unpacking the flowers, we looked for any signs of wilting or aging. We also made note of flowers that were still blooming and considered how long they stayed fresh as we tested them.
  • Delivery Options: We preferred arrangements that were available for same or next-day delivery — but noted different delivery options, and whether the flowers were sourced from local florists or elsewhere.
  • Selection: We reviewed services that had large floral selections, as well as the ability to filter our search by occasion and personal preferences for size, color, flower type, etc. We also evaluated the overall ease of navigating the site.

Flower FAQ

How do I choose a service?

Well, read our article! Think about when you need the flowers delivered, if you have cats or dogs at home, and the price you are willing to spend.

How do I make flowers last longer?

When you receive the flowers, be sure to trim the stems on a diagonal, allowing them to soak up more water. Then, be sure to add the nutrient packet to the fresh water.

Do I need to be home to receive the flowers?

Some companies will leave them at your door, while others need attended delivery. Be sure to check on the site for how they prefer to drop off the blooms!

What is the best place to order flowers online?

There are lots of options when it comes to ordering flowers online, which means picking the best one can feel overwhelming. Price, delivery locations, and bouquet selection are just three of the things we considered when narrowing our search down.

One flower delivery company we like is UrbanStems. For one thing, it offers same-day delivery, which means that if you forgot your bestie’s birthday or need to send a sympathy arrangement without notice, it has you covered. There’s a huge selection to pick from, including plants and gifts. There’s even a subscription service that starts as low as $50 per month for those who send flowers on a regular basis.

FTD is another online flower delivery company that met our approval. Like UrbanStems (and most of our favorites), it offers same-day delivery. Arrangements are bright and fresh, and come in a variety of sizes and price ranges, so it’s easy to find something in your budget. Also, we’re sort of obsessed with their Galentine’s Day options. Just sayin.

Finally, we need to give a shout-out to 1-800-Flowers. Beyond the brand recognition, what’s available for order is absolutely insane! If you’re not up to date with the latest floral trends, check out the Bestseller Section. Need something a little unexpected? You’re sure to find something in the Beautiful and Uncommon Section. For Valentine’s Day, we’re planning to send this Love Pup bouquet ($60). We love that the little dog is made of mini carnations and roses. It’s the perfect pick for an animal lover or the person who likes unique gifts.

Is FTD flowers legit?

Yes, flowers from FTD are legit. We know. We reviewed them.

The company has an amazing selection of florals, offers same-day delivery, and also delivers by hand! Our favorite part? The gift section, especially when it comes to Valentine’s Day gifts and other special occasions.

What are the disadvantages of online flower delivery?

Like ordering anything online, there’s always a bit of risk involved. When flowers are concerned, some of the potential disadvantages include bruising of petals, broken stems, and wilting. Similarly, depending on where a company sources its florals from, there’s a chance of not receiving the freshest blooms, making your arrangement look meh, instead of yeah!

The good news is we’ve personally vetted and reviewed a huge selection of flower online delivery companies, so we know where to steer you. Some of our favorites include:
