Perdue Foods has issued a recall for hundreds of thousands of pounds of frozen chicken nuggets ami fears of metal fragment contamination.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall in a press release Friday, stating that over 167,000 pounds of frozen nuggets could possibly contain “foreign materials, specifically metal.”

After customers complained of finding “metal wire embedded in the product,” the agency was notified and discovered that the contaminated goods were produced on Mar. 23.

While there have not been any injuries or illnesses reported as a result of consuming the products, FSIS said it “is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers.”

“We determined the material to be a very thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process,” Perdue’s senior vice president of food safety and quality, Jeff Shaw, said in a statement.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily recall all of these packages of products.”

The Perdue products that may have been contaminated are labeled with the plant number “P-33944” and have “Best if Used By” dates of Mar. 23, 2025.

Three products were part of the recall announced Friday, and all were manufactured in the same plant on the same day. USDA

If customers still have these products in their homes, they are advised to throw it away, return it to the point of purchase or call Perdue at 866-866-3703 for a refund.
