The guidance, which was sent through the Personnel Management Office (OPM), requires federal employees to submit a list of five achievements of the previous week. However, many major federal agencies, including the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Investigation Office, have advised their employees to ignore e -mail, noting concerns about classified information and legitimacy.
Former President Donald Trump supported Musk's initiative, describing it as “ingenious” to identify inactive employees. However, the move faced a major violent reaction from the agency's leaders and legislators, who argue that it may lead to unnecessary job losses and disrupt government operations.
The situation has been complex through mixed messages from various agencies. Some, like the education and transportation departments, issued instructions to employees to comply with the Musk request, while others advised not to do so. Employees Management Office ultimately explained that the response to the email was optional, but this message was not constantly connected to all agencies.
Legal procedures began by trade unions and invitation groups, claiming that e -mail violates the federal workforce regulations and that OPM lacks the authority to impose such demands. The American Federation of Government Employees pledged to compete for any illegal chapter resulting from this directive.
