Boen Yang, a member of the Saturday Night Live team (SNL), denied allegations that he played a role in shooting his comedian Shin Gillis from the show in 2019.

The controversy appeared after Michelle Bast, a background actor at SNL, appeared on a post on Instagram to promote the upcoming appearance of Gillis.

The best Yang was accused of being responsible for the dismissal of Gillis, referring to him as a “noisy queen” and spared Gillis because of his humor and flexibility. In response, Yang refuted the claim, saying,

“I didn't do any of this, but I wrote the drawing that I was a representative in the background,”

It is accompanied by the smiling face emojis.

Shin Gillis was originally appointed alongside Bowen Yang and Zoy Feneman in the SNL 45 season in 2019. However, shortly after the announcement of his porn, Podcast clips appeared that Gillis showed offensive jokes from Asians and other groups.

The reverse reaction SNL pushed his contract before he can appear for the first time. Despite the controversy, Gillis later returned to host the show in 2024 and again in March 2025.

Yang had previously addressed the situation, noting that he did not participate in the decision to expel Gilis. He stated that he learned the controversy through his agent, and then he got an apology from Gillis during a phone call before announcing his dismissal.

Yang confirmed that the Snl Lorne Michaels originated to him that he would not be the “child of racist harmony” in the midst of the accident. Thinking about the ordeal, Yang described the feeling as a cross -out figure as it became a broader national debate about the culture of cancellation.

The allegations that they reconfigured against Yang drew attention due to its timing, and coincided with the emergence of Gilis II's hosting on SNL. While some people continue to question the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Gillis, both comedians have been progressing since then forward in their career.
