United’s next five

Manchester United continue their Premier League campaign with a trip to the south coast to take on Brighton in tomorrow’s early kick off.

Here’s a look at their next five fixtures as they look to build up some momentum.

Brighton vs Man Utd team news

It’s unclear whether Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler will hand debuts to new signings Brajan Gruda and Georginio Rutter this weekend.

Gruda, who completed his switch from Bundesliga outfit Mainz, wasn’t quite ready to feature against Everton because of a “small injury,” while £40million forward Rutter will need time “integrating” into the set up following his arrival from Leeds.

Solly March, Bart Verbruggen, Evan Ferguson, Pervis Estupinan, Tariq Lamptey and Julio Enciso remain sidelined, but Yankuba Minteh could return after serving the six-day concussion protocol.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has a few absentees in Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund, but will make late calls on the availability of Victor Lindelof and Jadon Sancho.

Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee could spearhead the attack from the off having netted the winner against Fulham on Friday night. Alejandro Garnacho and Matthijs de Ligt could also find themselves in the starting XI.

Ten Hag pleased with signings

Erik ten Hag has said he is happy with the arrivals at Old Trafford so far this summer.

I am very pleased. It is showing that we are going in the right direction and we know, as a club, we have to catch up but I think it shows our ambition. The way we want to go. I think we have done good business, good players, quality players who will add and contribute to the quality of our squad.

Scholes sees no Man Utd improvement

Paul Scholes does not believe Manchester United have improved on last season despite their opening day win over Fulham.

Erik ten Hag’s men edged past the Cottagers at Old Trafford thanks to a late goal from new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

Red Devils legend Scholes, 49, was left unimpressed by the Fulham victory as he berated old issues in the side.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, brought to you by Sky Bet, Scholes said: “With Manchester United’s opening game against Fulham, I didn’t see many differences from their performances last season.

“I thought they did okay, and they deserved to win the game, but there were still plenty of times where there were loads of space in central midfield.

“The problem with United is that every time they have the ball, they are trying to attack, which isn’t a good thing.”
