Six Nations: Scotland aim to ‘finish on high’ against Ireland

Captain Rachel Malcolm and Scrum-Half Leia Brebner-Holden return to the Scotland team in the last sixth picnic at home to Ireland.

The couple missed the heavy defeat at the end of last week to England after being concluded in the previous loss against Italy.

Lea Bartlette comes in a loose, to replace Anne Young, which falls to the bench next to Becky Boyd, while there is no place for Caity Mattinson where Rhea Clake continues to serve the cover ninth.

To accommodate Malcolm, which takes its usual place in the back row, Jade Konkel moves to the second row, its third position is different in the tournament.

Ireland has 10 points and needs another one in Edinburgh to verify the third place after its victories over Italy and Wales.

Scotland sits six points behind visitors, after losing three points in a row since it beat Welsh at the weekend.

“At the end of this week, it revolves around the completion of the top,” said Brian Estson, coach of his team. “It comes to everything that meets with some really good offers and some truly difficult stages in games.

“We have learned a lot about ourselves and now we have an opportunity to collect this learning on the field.”

Scotland ended one point behind the Irish in 2024, and lost 15-12 in Belfast.

“Ireland is a very material side and we have to fight fire with fire,” Esson added. “I see it's tightness. Last year was difficult for us.

“We think we can put Ireland under pressure if we get our operations properly.”

Scotland opens its World Cup campaign against Wales in late August and will also meet in Fiji and Canada, with matches in Manchester and Exeter.

“We do not have a long time before we go back to prepare the World Cup,” Esson added.

“I think we are on the right path. We have crowned seven players in these six countries, and we are working hard to grow the base around the team.”
