John Jones has preferred that UFC be an undisputed heavy weight hero over Tom Aspinal.

The American fighter has not been active since he won the heavyweight title in 2023, where he defeated the Cieril Gane with the first round. Jones was scheduled to defend his belt shortly after his victory over the French against Stip Miocic, but he was forced to withdraw due to a severe chest injury to which he suffered during training.

“I spoke to UFC a long time ago about what my future plans were. I have not already succeeded since my last battle in New York City. Frankly, I think he was in the interest of UFC to continue to present me as a company champion – not Tom,” he said.

“I just played the role of the company's man by not doing anything at all … and fill this position. Honestly, he was incredibly profitable. I made more money than Tom was the temporary hero more than Tom himself. It is something that absorbs to see the rest of the oath like this, but this has nothing to do with me. I do not pull the lines.”

After he admitted amazing that he had not trained regularly since Miocic, many wonder whether Jones had actually retired. Before UFC 316 on Saturday, fans expressed their dissatisfaction by inviting the heavyweight hero to strip him of his title.

A petition was circulated, demanding Jones officially from his title, and he gained thousands of signatures. When asked about the petition, the audience boycotted UFC Jon Anik at the press conference Thursday evening, which chanted “Strip Jon Jones” frequently, explaining their feelings.

Ultimately, Anik has opened out of the continuous situation with Jones, saying: “So I think the fighting between John Jones and Tom Aspelal is greater if they are both heroes.
