Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order on Sunday, which adopts the definition of the Holocaust Corporation of the Holocaust to anti -Semitism, as he pledged to intensify the city's campaign to combat Jewish hatred.
He also submitted legislation urging the city council to agree to the definition of IHRA, which will make official law.
Many Jewish leaders are the definition of IHRA standard in combating anti -Semitism.
“The anti -Semitism is a certain perception of the Jews, which can be expressed as a compulsion towards the Jews. Personal and physical manifestations are directed to anti -Semitism to Jewish or non -Jewish individuals and/or their property, towards Jewish society institutions and religious facilities.”
Adams announced this during a discussion with Dr. Phil on Sunday night in the Trebika Church.
It comes when he faces his re -election and plans to run as a “sublime” ballot line.
“The anti -Semitism is an evil disease that spreads throughout our nation and our city. What is worse, because the terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, we saw this hateful discourse become natural in our deprivation, in our societies, and on the Internet as anti -Semitic propaganda often denies activity.”
The mayor pointed out that more than half of the hate crimes reported in the city in March are a victim of the Jews, although only 11 percent of the population.
Adams said: “We know that this moment requires a bold and decisive action to take strict measures against anti -Jewish hatred,” Adams said.
“Today, we signed a prominent executive to adopt an internationally recognized definition of anti -Semitism, but we must go further. I call on the city council to join this commitment to target anti -Semitism everywhere, and we immediately pass a bill to write down this definition to the law. It is time to assemble our article on this disaster from our city, once our city is to get everything.”
At the state level, former state governor Andrew Komo – who is also running for the mayor – issued an order prohibiting state entities from doing business with companies that belong to boycott, disruption and sanctions against Israel before his resignation. State Governor Cathy Hochol kept politics.
State observer Tom Danaboli has a pro -Israel policy.
In 2021, he announced that he had withdrawn $ 111 million in investments from the company that owns Ben & Jerry's because of the boycott of the ice cream maker to occupied Israel.
