A MOTHER has come up with a time-saving method for getting her kids out the door with their school lunches they packed themselves.
She simplified the process, making it easier for the children and less stressful for herself during potentially hectic school day mornings.
TikToker Lauren Jenkins (@laurensazhome) filmed herself in action in a viral video.
“OK, here’s how my kids are going to build their own lunches this school year,” she said.
She set out five different bins to represent each food group.
“So they have to choose one thing from each bin,” she added.

CUSTOMIZABLE LUNCH
Each bin contained grains, protein, dairy, fruit, and vegetables.
“I have blueberry muffins, naan bread, or Triscuits,” she said for grains.
She individually bagged each serving for easier access for her kids to choose from.
For protein options, she included hummus, salami, grilled chicken, hard-boiled eggs, and individually-wrapped peanut butter.
In the dairy bin, she had individually wrapped cheeses such as Tillamook and Laughing Cow as well as milk.
The fruit options were grapes, strawberries, and sliced apples.
For vegetables, she had baby carrots, mini bell peppers, and individual cartons of ranch dressing to dip them in.
WEIGHING IN
Other TikTokers shared their thoughts in the comments section on the mom’s approach to letting her kids make their own lunches.
“Finally something that seems working mom-friendly,” one wrote. “Thanks for sharing.”
“Aw thanks, yeah, I don’t have time for the cutesy lunches most days,” Jenkins replied.
“I did something similar with my kids,” another added.
“They loved it because lunch was short. They needed things they could eat fast and this worked.”
“This is beyond fantastic,” said a third.
“Simple prep, healthy, and so perfect to save time. [It] helps them be independent, too. Love it.”
“So cute, but my kid wants a meal. Haha I send him with leftovers now. I need to do this for me,” one more said.
“My girl only gets 20 minutes for lunch, so these smaller portions are easier for her to get down,” Jenkins wrote back.
