Metcalf, 17, was stabbed in a path in Texas in April after an argument around a seat.
Anthony, who was 17 years old at the time of stabbing, was charged with first -class killing by a major jury on Tuesday.
This means that the case is now transferred to the trial, but no date has been set.
Metcal's father, Jeff, issued a statement after the indictment, according to NewSnation.
“With the first -class murder indictment, he now goes to the court's system,” he said.
“I fully think that justice will be offered to Austin Metcal. I look forward to the next trial. But that will never restore my son.”
Anthony may face five to 99 years, or a life behind bars if convicted.
It can also make a fine of up to $ 10,000.
Anthony will be tried as an adult in line with the Texas Law.
Anthony, 18, admitted to stabbed Metcalf when the police arrested him after the attack at the David Kokingal stadium in Fresco.
He accepted when an officer was referred to him as an alleged suspect.
“He put his hands on me. I told him not to do it,” he told the police.
He claimed that he acted in self -defense.
Police officers also monitored the blood on the left Anthony finger.
Anthony later asked whether what happened in self -defense could be considered.
The self -defense argument has been repeated by Anthony lawyers.
Metcalf died in the arms of his twin brother Hunter after he was attacked.
Hunter said he tried to respond as soon as he could have been attacked.
“I tried to wander as quickly as possible,” ABC Hunter told Hunter WFaa.
While appearing on Will Ken Podcast, Hunter recalled the moment when Metcalf saw running in the ovaries after being stabbed.
He revealed that he tried to put his hand on the chest of his brother in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding.
Hunter said: “He grabbed his head and looked at his eyes.”
“I saw his soul left, and it took my soul too.”
Hunter Metcal described as “the most powerful child” he knew and described as a “meaningless” death.
Anthony was accused of death after the appeal and was released from prison on April 14, on a bond worth $ 250,000.
