A 108 -year -old woman shared some of her long life secrets, including a single shot drink every day before eating. Although it is part of less than 0.01 percent of the world's population who have reached 100, Esperanza Cortias is still dancing, traveling on the bus and has an active social life.

Esperanza lives with her 76 -year -old daughter Mary Carmen in her apartment in Una, northern Spain. In an interview with a local radio station, I made it clear that the key to 108 years of life is “work, active, eating well, being cheerful and enjoyable.”

Regarding her practical life, she stated, “I have worked hard throughout my life since I was young when I took care of cows, which helped me a lot.” Esperanza also appreciates eating well, especially “products such as vegetables or fruits” although they highlighted that “I can eat everything”.

But what never fails in its daily diet is a “snapshot of coffee intoxicants” and indicated that “before coming to the radio, I already took a snapshot of coffee coffee”, which is a very traditional drink in this region of Galicia.

As I mentioned on Cope.es, she wakes up at 11 am and before eating, she already takes a snapshot, known as the licorice cafe. Her daughter is preparing for food and is usually about 1 pm she enjoys local products for lunch.

After a break, although it does not take a nap, at approximately 4 pm, she leaves the house and holds the bus that takes them to the city center to go to the retired house where the cards play with her friends. Esperanza admires “a lot” and notes that “I have many friends and we have a great time.”

From Monday to Saturday afternoon on Saturday, the cards play, but on Sundays dance. Esperanza noted that “I danced a lot in my life and I always loved him.” Now she is not dancing much because last year she broke her thigh, and although she recovered well, she takes it easy and only perpetuated to dance.

After playing paper or dancing on Sunday afternoon, around 8 pm, she returned to the bus to return home, where she usually has a cup of milk for dinner and listens to the radio and also at night she puts the TV to go to bed at approximately 11 pm. Esperanza claims to sleep well.

The importance of socialization

The centenary highlighted that it maintains “continuous communication with family and friends” and this social communication “helped her a lot” for longevity. Her daughter, Mary, has her company every day and confirmed that “many people approach her on the street as if she was a celebrity.”

Also, Esperanza is not afraid of long trips, and a few weeks ago, she went by train to Alyante, five hours away, to see her daughter who lives there. Celsius loves to look nice and have dresses of all colors, “up to three wardrobes filled with clothes”, always putting her hair and putting some lipstick.

Esperanza believes that “to be cheerful and a desire to live” allows her to enjoy day after day, month and month after a year.

How to prepare a licorice cafe

Also known as “Licorca”, Licor Café is very popular in the Galicia region of Spain. Although it can be purchased in cafes in the area, it is often homemade.

Therefore, there are many different recipes for making them. Sometrics are usually formed from Orujo (Auguardiente), coffee beans, and sugar. Next, different ingredients are added to each recipe, often lemon or orange peel, cinnamon, and dark chocolate.

Galicia Tips recommends the following components:

  • 1 liter of powerful alcohol (Oruja, Aguardiente, but you can also use vodka)
  • Coffee 1/4 kg
  • 1/2 kilo sugar
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange

Preparing as follows:

  • Pour the alcoholic drink in a large sealing bowl
  • Put the stove with sugar and add 100 ml of water. Boil boiling to create a drink. Let it cool down and add it to alcohol
  • Peel the lemon and orange accurately and add the scales to the mixture
  • Finally, add ground coffee and move everything together
  • Let it stand sealed for at least eight days
  • Make the drink and pour it into a bottle

Store the drink in the freezer or refrigerator and serve cold ice.
