A BASE jumper was found dead only three months after making a death-defying jump in South Africa.
Leonardo Durant was declared dead after being missing for over a week following a major jump off a California mountain.
Before going missing, the experienced jumper shared a shocking video of himself on social media jumping over 12,000 feet.
In the clip, Durant took flight with his massive wingsuit as he jumped off the mountain.
“Poised. Dropping in. Catching that perfect angle,” he captioned the video.
“The wingsuit start can be a tricky thing. Unforgiving of flaws. But rewarding when nailed.”
Durant tagged Base Jump Africa and included an onslaught of hashtags promoting base jumping and South Africa.
A massive search and rescue operation was conducted when Leonardo Durant disappeared in Yosemite after jumping off Mount Morrison on August 31.
The seasoned base jumper was reported missing by his base jumping partner which prompted the Mono County Sheriff’s Office to deploy its search and rescue team.
“Due to the large search area, California High Patrol Helicopter H-40 was requested from the Fresno area to assist with the search. H-40 was able to successfully locate Durant on the craggy slope of Mount Morrison,” a Facebook statement by the sheriff’s office said.
“Based on observations from H-40 personnel, it was determined that Durant was deceased.”
