The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White scored a second Emmy for his leading role of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, but part of his touching acceptance speech appears to remain a mystery.
Cameras caught White hugging co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri on his way to receive his award for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which he accepted from presenters Damon Wayans, George Lopez, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much,” he gushed at the mic. “My heart is just beating right out of its chest.”
He expressed his gratitude to the Academy and to his fellow nominees, whose company he said he was “so honored” to be in.
“Chris and Joe, thank you for choosing me,” he continued, referring to Christopher Storer and Joanna Calo. “I’m so, so, so lucky. I’m so grateful. Thank you. My beautiful cast, I love you forever. I love to work with you and I just, I want us to be in each other’s life for forever. I love you so dearly.”
White was then briefly censored, as he continued speaking while looking toward the camera. Once the audio returned, viewers at home could hear some laughs emerge from the audience, as he proceeded to highlight how the show has “changed [his] life.”

“It has instilled a faith that change is possible, that change is possible if you are able to reach out,” he continued. “You are really, truly, never actually alone.”
He then thanked his parents and his sister Annabelle, the last of whom he brought to Sunday night’s awards ceremony. Music began to play as he rushed to conclude his speech.
White was up against Matt Berry (What We Do In The Shadows), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), and D’Pharoah Woon-atai (Reservation Dogs).
Tonight’s hosts Dan and Eugene Levy poked fun at the FX dramedy remaining in the comedy category during their opening monologue, as the former quipped that “in the true spirit of The Bear, [they] will not be making any jokes.”
