Dave Portnoy has officially announced his exit from the “BFFs” podcast amid the ongoing drama stemming from Brianna “Chickenfree” LaPaglia's breakup with Zack Bryan.
The Barstool Sports founder revealed the news during a guest appearance on Thursday's episode of the “Unnamed Show,” telling listeners that he was leaving because “the topics don't interest me at all.”
“They show me topics when I go there. I haven't done any research, and I'm just ripping off 18-year-old people, who I don't even know,” Portnoy explained. “I don't necessarily like doing it. “It's a little different.”
Portnoy went on to say that the “BFFs” podcast has “definitely achieved what I wanted to achieve” since they originally started it.
“Josh and Brie will continue it. It's very successful,” he explained. “But, yeah, it's time for me to try the next thing. I ran my cycle with it.
Portnoy and Josh Richards launched the popular podcast in 2020. LaPaglia joined their team as an additional co-host in 2021.
LaPaglia also addressed Portnoy's departure during Thursday's episode of “BFFs,” saying the show “will definitely be a new pod” without the founder's influence.
Portnoy previously teased his exit earlier this month, telling everyone that his “plan” was to “be done with close friends” by the end of the year.
“Just because I'm getting older, like I'm getting close to 50,” Portnoy, 47, said at the time. “Teenage drama, it's a little outside my wheelhouse, I'm talking about. We've known about it for months, and we wondered: What's the best way to announce it?
However, these plans were quickly derailed when news of LaPaglia and Bryan's breakup was announced.
On the bombshell episode that dropped on November 7, LaPaglia opened up about her relationship with the country singer. She accused him of mistreatment and claimed that he offered to pay her $12 million in exchange for her silence about their separation.
“I thought this is how it was going to end,” Portnoy said at the time.
“I thought I'd go ahead and say, 'Hey, I respect their decision.' We're not going to talk about Zach, but I can't bring myself to talk about it anymore because I have to talk about it if we're going to do this. And I woke up the next morning, and it was like, 'Shit. For the money, we're going.”
Portnoy has since proceeded to express his feelings about the “I Remember Everything” singer, calling him a “Country Diddy” and a “Smallest Man” on two tracks.
“I will write 10,000 pieces of music,” Portnoy promised, showing his support for his friend and co-host amid her “difficult” split from the singer. “I'm going to put my headphones on. I'm going to come back and spit dicks twice as hot.”
The exact date for Portnoy's final episode of “BFFs” has yet to be revealed. However, he said he plans to stay on and co-host the podcast until the end of the year.
