Mike Tyson revealed an unusual pinfall in his post-fight interview in the Dallas boxing ring, where he lost to opponent Jake Paul.
When asked why he was often seen biting his left boxing glove, the former heavyweight champion replied: “I have a habit of biting my gloves, yes.”
When asked why, he replied: “Um, I have an obsession with biting.”
Tyson bit off the ear of his opponent Evander Holyfield during a world title match in 1997, a move that led to his disqualification.
Asked if he was happy with his performance against Jake Paul on Friday night, he replied: “Yes, absolutely happy.” “I knew he was a good fighter, he was ready but I came to fight.
After the fight, which saw Jake Paul win definitively, landing 78 strikes to Tyson's 18 over eight two-minute rounds, fans criticized the one-sided result.
“Who's next, Joe Biden” was one tweet that summed up fans' dismay at the contest between 29-year-old Paul and a man twice his age.
Another tweet read: “BREAKING: Jake Paul challenged Jimmy Carter (100 years old) to a boxing match after defeating Mike Tyson (58 years old).”
“Terrible fight all around. I wasn't expecting Tyson to go crazy but he barely did anything but bite his glove,” said another.
“Watching Tyson get paid $20 million for biting a glove,” another person wrote.
Friday's bout between Tyson and Paul, kicked off by Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 2 was the biggest boxing wicket outside of Las Vegas in US history, at over $17.8 million. More than 70,000 people attended the match.
