Jorge Navarro started the second half of the MotoGP World Championship as he intends to continue. The Spanish rider topped the first free practice session in Portimao ahead of his Italian rivals.
The second half of the Supersport World Championship has kicked off in Portugal at the Portimão circuit. This is the first of two Superbike World Championship races to be held in Portugal this season. Adrián Huertas will be leading the Supersport World Championship in the second half of 2024.
Jorge Navarro is currently sitting outside the top five in the WorldSSP Championship. In his quest to secure a top-five finish, the Spaniard started his day in Portimao by topping the first practice session.
Ducati rider Jari Montella completed the top two. The Italian is second in the championship on his Barney Spark Racing Ducati and will need to make up a lot of ground this week to close the gap that separates him from the championship leader, which is 46 points.
The best Yamaha rider in FP1 was Stefano Manzi in third. The Italian is seven points behind Monitella in the championship. This weekend will be crucial for Manzi and the Ten Cate team if they want to stay in the championship race.
Federico Caricasolo is the best rider for the MV Agusta team, having started the day in fourth place. Despite being out of the championship, Caricasolo is still able to claim his place as the best rider for the MV Agusta team this season.
Championship leader Adrian Huertas starts the day in fifth place. This position will not bother the Spaniard as he is 46 points ahead of Monitla in the standings.
Valentin Debisi is sixth on an Evan Bros Yamaha R6. Frenchman Lucas Mahias is second behind Debisi on a GMT94 Yamaha.
John McPhee is the top rider for the Triumph team and the best British rider in FP1. It has been a tough first half of the season for McPhee and he will be looking to improve on his results this week after a positive start.
Marcel Schröter is ninth and Nicolo Antonelli is tenth. The MV Agusta rider who is Schröter’s partner will be hoping to qualify higher than ninth later today to give him the best chance of retaining his top-five position. However, Antonelli will be happy with tenth as he is 15th in the standings.
