Bone appetite!
A Mississippi teacher is in the doghouse after inadvertently serving nearly a dozen students beef-flavored dog treats during a classroom party — and sending one child to the hospital.
The mistake cost a Calhoun City High School teacher her job after eight students took at least one bite of pet food that she mistook for beef bacon, WTVA reported.
At least one student who bit into dog food was sent to the hospital with stomach pain, according to Calhoun County School District Superintendent Dr. Lisa Langford.
“I don't want to believe that anyone would do something like that to kids, but it's hard to believe you didn't notice there was a dog on the package, and it said 'dog jerky,'” Atlantis Willie's mother said after she took her son in for treatment.
The other students were treated by the school nurse, who quickly called poison control and alerted the parents of the affected children, after the blunder, the local outlet reported.
The incident occurred last week during a birthday celebration for several students.
The supervisor confirmed that the teacher was no longer working, but did not specify whether she had been fired or not.
School officials identified the teacher.
