President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will nominate businessman John Phelan to be the next Secretary of the Navy.
“John will be a tremendous force for our Navy service members, and a steadfast leader in advancing my vision of America First,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday. “He will put the work of the U.S. Navy above all else.”
Phelan founded Rugger Management LLC, a Florida-based private investment firm.
He is the co-founder of MSD Capital, the private investment firm of Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies.
“John's intelligence and leadership are unparalleled. John has an MBA from Harvard Business School and is a truly remarkable man!” Trump wrote. “His incredible knowledge and experience will uplift the lives of the brave Americans who serve our nation! I look forward to working with him.” “
If the Senate approves Phelan's appointment, he will replace Carlos del Toro as head of the Navy.
Del Toro, a Cuban-American businessman, is the second Hispanic American to serve as Secretary of the Navy.
