Emmanuel Macron and a television crew headed this morning to Notre Dame Cathedral, which will reopen next weekend, five and a half years after the devastating fire.
The French president traveled with cameras and journalists to the famous Paris Cathedral to watch the epic renovation, which is estimated to cost around 700 million euros ($740 million).
In photos shown by BBC News, Macron arrived with a television crew and was given a tour of the medieval building alongside the French Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Paris.
He was welcomed inside by the chief architect of France's national monuments, showing the sacred objects that survived the fire and giving an explanation of how areas such as the ceiling and window were reshaped. A BBC correspondent in Paris wrote that it was an “amazing experience”.
Notre Dame Cathedral will reopen to the public next weekend. It comes five and a half years after a devastating fire tore through the 800-year-old building, which broke out in the attic, causing the iconic wooden tower to collapse and destroying most of the wooden roof.
