Jari Montella takes victory over championship leader Adrian Huertas in the opening World Supersport race in Portimao.
After qualifying from pole position yesterday, Adrian Huertas’s lead in the Supersport World Championship looked set to expand. However, the Spaniard did not achieve everything he wanted.
It wasn’t the Aruba.it Ducati Supersport that won, it was the Barni Spark Supersport Ducati that won the race. Jari Montella won the opening Supersport race of the weekend by three seconds.
Huertas may not have won the race, but that was thanks to the championship leader limiting the damage he suffered. The Spaniard only dropped five points today after finishing second.
Stefano Manzi was third on his Yamaha R6. The Italian was battling Huertas at one point, but ended up 7 seconds behind at the chequered flag.
Fourth place went to Jorge Navarro on an Aurillac Racing Ducati, while fifth place, two seconds behind, was taken by Federico Caricasolo on an MV Agusta.
Frenchman Valentin Debis finished sixth, finishing outside the top five. Marcel Schröter drove his MV Agusta to seventh, while Lucas Mahias was eighth.
Rounding out the top ten were Ten Kate rider Glenn van Straalen in ninth and Niki Tuuli in tenth.
John McPhee managed to collect one point as he finished the race in 15th place. However, Tom Booth-Amos crashed early on and only finished the race in 23rd place.
