AMERICAN Idol has been ripped for a disappointing new rule.

The new stipulation prevents potential American Idol contestants from auditioning ahead of its new season with Carrie Underwood.

While promoting the return of “Idol Across America” on Instagram new judge Carrie, 41, wrote, “Go from your hometown to the world’s biggest stage, while literally auditioning from your home! I wish American Idol auditions were this easy back in my day!”

The post included a poster of the televised singing competition’s upcoming open call and state day dates with a weblink for audition signups.

The link promoted the option of a “live virtual audition with a producer while also asking if the performer was born between 1995 and 2010.

The dates only allow participants between the ages of 29 and 14 to try out.

In the post’s comment section, one fan complained, “It’s so sad they put an age limit.

“I’m by no means old but of course the world keeps sending the message that your dreams are over if you’re over 30.”

“Go to the voice then, replied another.

A third commenter asked, “Can you please open up the ages. I used to watch as a little girl and now at 33 I’m too old.”

“Go on The Voice where it’s based on your voice not appearance and they allow older voices,” a fourth person suggested.

“Too bad I’m too old for idols standards now. Still fun that I auditioned the same season as you in Cleveland,” added another.

Carrie Underwood to replace Katy Perry on American Idol as former winner is close to ‘finalizing deal’ as new judge

KATY’S REPLACEMENT

One fan commented, “So glad to see you back on American Idol Carrie Underwood. Welcome home.

Carrie was selected to replace Katy Perry, 39, as a judge on American Idol.

Earlier this year, the Hot N Cold singer revealed she would be leaving the singing competition series after seven seasons.

Last month, it was announced that Carrie is set to sit alongside Luke Bryan, 47, and Lionel Richie, 74, for the show’s 23rd season (Season 8 with ABC), as reported by Deadline.

The show originally aired on FOX but ended its run in 2016.

The Before He Cheats hitmaker is no stranger to American Idol – she previously competed on and won Season 4 of the series.

KATY’S DEPARTURE

Pop music sensation Katy Perry joined the show in 2018 to be a judge with Luke and Lionel.

In February, Katy broke the news that Season 22 would be her last.

She said, “This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio.

“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.

“I mean, I love Idol so much.

“It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” the star concluded.

In September, Katy will release her highly anticipated sixth album 143.

Last month, she released her controversial single Woman’s World.

CARRIE’S TIME TO SHINE

When she was 21 years old, Carrie sang I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt in front of the OG judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul.

The country music icon made it to the very end where it was between her and Bo Bice.
