Garrett Wilson had a seemingly frustrated reaction when asked about his limited involvement during the New York Jets' Week 16 loss.
Wilson and the Jets were defeated 19-9 in a fast-paced environment at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
The Jets put together an impressive 99-yard touchdown drive with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers finding Davante Adams for the score in the end zone late in the first quarter.
but, New York He would not score another touchdown in the contest.
The 24-year-old Wilson had a disappointing day on the stat sheet, catching seven targets and hauling in six receptions for 54 yards.
After the game, Wilson was asked if he felt open during plays where he wasn't targeted.
“I gave it my best shot and see how it goes, that's all I can really do,” Wilson told reporters.
“That's all I can do. I feel like I came a good ways in this match.
“I feel like I have a chance to help the team, but sometimes, it doesn't happen that way.”
The third-year wide range was targeted only three times before the final drive of the planes.
Wilson was then asked about his limited usage in the Jets offense for most of the game, and he reacted with a seemingly depressed tone.
“I'd love to be involved, I'd love to have an impact on the game, but if people see it differently, that's out of my control. Just try to do what I can do,” he said.
Wilson still ranks fourth in the NFL in targets (141) and fourth in receptions (94).
The former first-round pick is on pace for his third straight 1,000-yard season with his team after being drafted.
Wilson needs just 13 yards in the last two games against Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins to reach that mark.
However, ESPN reporter Rich Cimini said last week on a podcast that he believes Wilson will request a trade away from the Jets.
“I talk to people in Garrett Wilson’s circle,” he said.
“They think, now I want to stress that this is speculation on their part, and they think he's going to ask for a trade after the season.
“Again, this is just conjecture by people who know him. We don't know this to be a fact.”
Wilson will be in line for a contract extension the next season, but even he doesn't know if it's his future He belongs to New York.
“I don't know, man” Wilson began to explain, according to SNY. “I just think I'm doing whatever, you know, whatever. And yet, I go about my day, and I'm where my feet are, you know?”
He continued: “And if they do that.” “I'm going to get lucky and it's going to be great. I love the Jets. At the end of the day, they were the first ones to believe in me.”
“So, yeah, you know. I can't worry about all that. I'll finish these three games the right way. But I don't know, man, I can't look at all that right now, you know?”
Wilson is sure to fuel trade rumors with his latest comments.
The Jets have missed the playoffs for the 14th straight season and will have a new general manager and head coach hired in the offseason.
It is not certain whether the team will bring Rodgers back in 2025.
