A Missouri man faces murder charges after he stabbed his father about 50 times and then entered the sheriff's office to confess Wednesday, claiming he “accidentally killed his father.”
Jeffrey Goudy, 41, was arrested last week for the murder of Edward Goudy, 75, after he entered the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and quickly reported his alleged crime to authorities around 11:40 a.m.
“I made a mistake,” he said, according to a criminal complaint obtained by Law & Crime. “I committed a crime and I want to turn myself in.”
He told investigators that his father was unconscious in the kitchen, bleeding from his face and back, after he used weapons and his hands to attack the older Guidi, according to the complaint.
Manchester City Police, within whose jurisdiction the crime was committed, were called by the Sheriff's Office and arrived at the father's home to conduct a welfare check. Police entered the home through a basement window and found the victim dead face down on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds.
After the discovery, investigators spoke with the murder suspect, who allegedly said he “knew he wasn't free to leave because he accidentally killed someone,” according to police documents.
He refused to say more and then asked for a lawyer.
The next day, an autopsy revealed that Edward Guidi had suffered about 50 stab wounds, as well as broken bones, strangulation and blunt force trauma, including to the head, authorities said.
A kitchen knife with a pointed tip was found in a kitchen trash can, and law enforcement believes it is the murder weapon.
Leader Publishing reported that Gowdy faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is currently in custody without bond.
Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak told the outlet that Guidi went to the Sheriff's Office and not Manchester Police because he trusted the countywide agency.
