With a new director at the helm, Hilarie Burton Morgan is looking forward to a potential return to the series One Tree Hill.
After she and Sophia Bush confirmed they were working on a reboot of their hit WB/CW teen series, the actress praised writer and executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards (Virgin River, Firefly Lin, The bold type) as they develop the follow-up together.
“Our showrunner, Becky Hartman Edwards, is very good at female friendships and multi-generational shows, which is why we were so excited to collaborate with her,” Burton-Morgan said. the people. “So I feel very confident in what is being offered.”
One Tree Hill Creator Mark Schwan, who served as executive producer and showrunner on the original series, has no involvement in the sequel. In 2017, a number of Oath Women and crew members, including Bush and Burton, spoke out and accused him of sexual harassment. The new series offers women a chance to reclaim the show.
Noting that the reboot has not yet been given the green light, Burton-Morgan said she hopes Netflix “will do it” after Deadline reported in August that the show was in the works on the streamer.
“When it leaked, it was very, very early in the game,” she explained. “So, we're going to submit things to Netflix, and they'll have to decide whether it's greenlit or not. But I think the more people show that they're excited about it, the better.”
Returning as executive producer with Burton Morgan, Bush previously said the process of developing the series was “truly amazing.”
“The fans have kept this show alive, they've been asking for it for a long time, and the studio came to us about it,” she told Access. I think 10 years ago, I would have said: Not on your life. Now I realize that the opportunity to have not only a comfortable show, but a home base, is important to people.
“And so, to start figuring out how we can tell these stories and bring our whole fragmented group back together is really amazing,” Bush said. “If that happens, I think you’ll be very happy.”
Following news of the series' continuation, Bush and Burton Morgan confirmed their participation in a joint statement, expressing their excitement to return to the show, which premiered in 2003 and originally ran for nine seasons.
“What if you could really go home?” They wrote. “If there's an opportunity to collaborate with amazing creatives and build a space where all our friends can showcase their talent? Do we own our history? Reclaim our land? Honor our fans? Sign us up. There's only one Tree Hill, after all. And you showed us — #OTHfam — That it is not just an idea, it is truly a place where “everything is better and everything is safe.”
The sequel is said to take place 20 years after the original, and follows best friends Brooke (Davis) and Peyton (Burton Morgan) who are now parents to teenagers and face challenges not unlike what they faced in the original series such as love, insecurity and problems. Sadness, we understand.
Along with Edwards as writer/executive producer, the show hails from Warner Bros. Television. Daniel Ackles and his husband Jensen Ackles are helming the project through their Chaos Machine banner, with the former in talks to return as Rachel Scott. Emily Moss Wilson is a producer.
